-------------------------------------- Solaris 8 Standard Distribution README -------------------------------------- This README file is also located in the root directory of the Solaris 8 Standard Distribution CD. 1. Patch Cluster installation Before placing your Solaris system in production use, it is essential to download and install the latest Solaris Recommended Patch Cluster. The following script is provided to simplify Patch Cluster installation: /usr/local/bin/install_patch_cluster The Patch Cluster may be manually downloaded and installed from the following URL: ftp://sunsolve.sun.com/pub/patches/8_Recommended.zip 2. Boot disk mirroring To mirror your boot disk using the Solaris DiskSuite Logical Volume Management software, use the following script: /usr/local/bin/mirror_boot_disk The script attempts to locate additional disks with the same geometry (cylinders, heads, and sectors) as the boot disk, and allows you to mirror (RAID 1) the boot disk with one of these disks. After the script completes, you may boot off the mirror disk (if the boot disk fails) by issuing the following command at the Open Boot Prompt ("ok" prompt): boot mirror 3. Remote administration After installation, remote login and administration will not be possible until the server is rebooted or the system administrator issues the following command to start the ssh server: /etc/init.d/sshd start This precaution allows the system administrator to install the latest Solaris Patch Cluster and reboot the system prior to starting the sshd service. An ssh client is required for remote administration of the system. 4.
